Whitby Man Arrested; Loaded Firearm Seized, Police Say

Police report that a 37-year-old man was arrested in Whitby and a loaded firearm was seized. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, near Hickory Street and Dundas Street.

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) states the arrest followed an incident on Sunday, July 6, when Central West Division officers on patrol at Brock Street South and Dunlop Street East located a suspicious vehicle. Police say further investigation showed the vehicle was associated with a man who had multiple outstanding warrants. According to police, when officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect struck a police cruiser and left the scene.

DRPS has identified the accused as Bryan Young, 37, of Pickering. According to police, Young faces several charges, including two counts of failing to comply with probation, three counts of possession contrary to an order, four counts of driving while suspended, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm. Police say Young was also wanted on existing warrants for two counts of assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a probation order. Police report Young was held for a bail hearing.

The DRPS notes that the details described are based on their ongoing investigation and that the allegations have not been proven in court.
