Whitby Resident Charged After Vehicle Crashes Into Home

A 25-year-old Whitby man faces several driving-related charges after a vehicle collided with a house near Carnwith Drive East and Watford Street on Saturday, May 24, 2025, according to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS). The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. when a white Chevrolet pick-up truck travelling northbound on Watford Street reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the home, causing significant structural damage.

DRPS stated that the driver fled the scene on foot. Officers, assisted by the Air1 helicopter, searched the area and arrested the man a short distance from the scene. The individual was then transported to Central East Division for breath testing.

Police identified the driver as Lucas Desbois, 25, of Whitby. He was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance, impaired operation exceeding blood alcohol concentration, dangerous operation of a conveyance, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. According to DRPS, Desbois was released on an undertaking after his arrest.

Due to the extent of the damage to the residence, members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the site to investigate. The roadway in the area was closed temporarily while evidence was collected. DRPS reports the investigation into the collision is ongoing.
