Whitby Shooting Leaves Dog Dead and One Injured

On the morning of October 31, 2024, police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Mary Street East and Pine Street in Whitby. Upon arrival, officers discovered a dog that had been shot. The animal was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic but did not survive.

Later, a male with gunshot wounds was admitted to a hospital in Toronto. He was subsequently transferred to a trauma center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Durham Regional Police Service is seeking assistance from the public. They are asking anyone with cell phone, dash cam, or surveillance footage related to the incident to come forward. Information can be provided to Detective Constable Marchand of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.

The police have stated that the details provided are part of an ongoing investigation and have not yet been proven in court.
