Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster issued a condolence statement on July 28 following the death of Gordon (Gord) Lowery, in a post published on the Municipality of Clarington’s website.

The statement identifies Lowery as a longtime figure in Orono’s amateur sports community and notes he was named Clarington’s Senior of the Year in 2013.

“Clarington, especially the Village of Orono, has suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of Gord Lowery, an exceptional citizen whose legacy shaped amateur athletics in Orono,” Foster said in the statement.

The mayor’s statement says Lowery had long-standing involvement with local sports leagues and describes him as “a legend in our hockey arenas and on our soccer fields.”

“On behalf of Council and the Municipality of Clarington, I want to extend my sincere condolences to his family, friends and all those grieving his loss,” Foster said.

The municipal post did not include Lowery’s age, the date of his death, or funeral information.
