Durham Region promotes June 2026 recreation ‘passport’ program

Share

Participating municipalities across Durham Region will offer a passport-style program of free recreation activities throughout June 2026, according to a June 1 notice posted by the Durham Region Health Department.

The program is being promoted to coincide with Recreation and Parks Month, which takes place in June. June is also Bike Month, and Durham Region’s website lists cycling events and bike-friendly activities at durham.ca/BikeMonth.

Durham Region says the passport program will include free recreation offerings provided by participating municipalities. Examples include public swims and “Free Fitness Fridays.” The notice also mentions additional “new activities,” but does not specify what they are.

Durham Region says passport details and event information will be available through participating municipalities’ recreation websites. Where offered, the region says residents may also be able to find information in person at municipal recreation centres.

The region’s notice does not name which Durham Region municipalities are participating or provide a schedule of dates and locations for the free activities.

The notice includes a statement from Tara Wheeler, a public health nurse with the Durham Region Health Department, encouraging residents to take part in Recreation and Parks Month and Bike Month activities during June.
