Durham Region Ranked Among Canada’s Top Investment Locations for 2024
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has been ranked among Canada’s top 20 locations to invest in 2024 by Site Selection Magazine, which focuses on corporate real estate and economic development.
The ranking is based on factors such as capital investment and job creation, both cumulatively and per capita. In 2023, non-residential building permits in Durham reached an all-time high of $1.23 billion. Recent investments include:
- Nuclear technology steward AtkinsRéalis in Pickering
- Global supply chain leader Martin Brower in Oshawa
- Manufacturing company Tessera Group's corporate headquarters in Scugog
Additionally, Trent University Durham GTA opened an Advanced Learning Centre in Oshawa, and Adamson Systems Engineering is expanding its production facility in Port Perry. A refurbishment of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is projected to create approximately 11,000 jobs annually over an 11-year period.
The recognition marks the first time Durham Region’s Economic Development and Tourism division, known as Invest Durham, has been acknowledged by Site Selection Magazine. This highlights the collaboration of the Durham Economic Development Partnership (DEDP), which includes Invest Durham and eight local municipalities. The partnership aims to provide seamless service delivery to the business community in Durham Region.
