Durham Region schedules Greenbank watermain cleaning for April 27–28
Durham Region plans to clean watermains in Greenbank on April 27 and 28, with work scheduled during the day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to a notice posted on the region’s website. The region has contracted IQ Environmental to carry out the cleaning.
The work may affect how residents use water while cleaning is underway on their street. Durham Region says residents may need to stop using water during the cleaning period to avoid drawing material into household plumbing.
Durham Region says affected homes will receive a hand-delivered notice 24 to 48 hours before cleaning begins on their street.
During cleaning on their street, residents who can are asked to close the shut-off valve at the water meter so water is not drawn into the home until the work is finished.
For residents who cannot close the shut-off valve, Durham Region says no water should be used for any purpose while their street is being cleaned. The region’s notice lists examples including flushing toilets, using furnace-mounted humidifiers and backwashing water softeners.
Durham Region warns that using water during the cleaning period could draw material into a home’s internal plumbing and cause a blockage.
Before using hot water after the cleaning is completed, residents are asked to run a cold-water tap for about five minutes, Durham Region says.
