Ontario Tech University Receives $100,000 Donation for Nursing Scholarships

Ontario Tech University announced on January 13, 2025, that it received a $100,000 donation from the Sienna for Seniors Foundation to establish the Sienna Senior Living Nursing Scholarships. The donation is part of the university's "Tech with a Conscience" fundraising campaign and is intended for students in the Faculty of Health Sciences' Nursing program.

Ontario Tech University reported that seventy students have already benefited from the Sienna Senior Living Nursing Scholarships. The funding is intended to provide financial support to students, according to the university.

The Sienna for Seniors Foundation is the charitable division of Sienna Senior Living, a company based in Markham, Ontario. Nitin Jain, President and CEO of Sienna Senior Living, said the foundation supports organizations and individuals with similar aims. Jain stated, "At Sienna, our purpose is cultivating happiness and enhancing the lives of seniors, which is why the Sienna for Seniors Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations and individuals who share these goals."

Gloria Koya, a second-year nursing student and recipient of a Sienna Senior Living Nursing Scholarship, said in a university statement that the scholarship has allowed her to reduce work hours and dedicate more time to her studies and campus activities. Koya said, "This scholarship has encouraged me and given me the freedom to become more involved in extracurricular activities. I am now able to attend campus events, engage in meaningful conversations, and connect with my peers."
