Suspect Arrested After Shotgun Theft Near Orono

A male is in custody following a break-and-enter incident near Orono, south of Kirby, where a shotgun was stolen.

On Sunday, September 1, 2024, at approximately 8:50 a.m., officers from East Division responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress at a residence located near Concession Road 6 and Jewel Road. Upon arrival, police found the suspect in possession of the stolen shotgun. The suspect complied with police demands and dropped the firearm, leading to his arrest without further incident.

It was later discovered that the vehicle used by the suspect to arrive at the scene had also been reported stolen.

While being transported, the suspect broke a rear window of the police cruiser and attempted to escape. However, he was quickly recaptured by nearby police units.

The suspect, identified as Allan James Johnson, age 37, with no fixed address, faces multiple charges including:

  • Break-and-Enter and Steal Firearm
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Possess Firearm Without Licence
  • Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime
  • Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Escape Lawful Custody of Peace Officer
  • Possession Contrary to Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order

Johnson has been held for a bail hearing.
