Bowmanville event set for Sept. 23 on hate incidents, reporting supports and disinformation
A community event called “Together, We Are Clarington: A Community Conversation” is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex (Full Hall), 2440 Durham Highway 2, in Bowmanville.
The session is planned to focus on hate incidents, hate crimes and disinformation, including how residents can recognize these issues and what local supports are available.
The event is being organized by the Municipality of Clarington, the Region of Durham, Victim Services of Durham Region and Clarington Library, Museums and Archives.
Planned topics include how to distinguish hate incidents from hate crimes, the Community-Based Hate Reporting Program, and local supports and resources, according to the Municipality of Clarington.
The agenda also includes a discussion about recognizing and preventing the spread of disinformation, and information about Community Safety and Well-Being initiatives, the municipality said.
Organizers say attendees will be able to connect with local community organizations, cultural and faith groups, and service providers.
Doors are scheduled to open at 6:30 p.m. The municipality said admission is free and light refreshments will be provided.
