Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment contract awarded; major construction set for 2027
Lakeridge Health and Infrastructure Ontario awarded PCL Partnerships the contract on Nov. 5, 2026, to design, build and finance the redevelopment of Bowmanville Hospital, which will more than double its size. Site preparation is scheduled for fall 2026, with major construction to begin in 2027. The hospital will remain open throughout construction.
The expansion will add services for patients in Clarington and Durham Region, including a haemodialysis centre for people with kidney disease, clinics for patients who do not need an overnight stay, and private patient rooms, according to Lakeridge Health.
The redeveloped hospital will also include Level 3 critical care capacity, the highest level of hospital care for critically ill or injured patients. A rooftop helipad is also part of the project.
The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is raising the community’s share of redevelopment costs and all equipment costs through its We Care, We Can campaign, foundation CEO Maria Petri said.
