CFIA recalls Ofood Mild Ssamjang soybean paste over improperly declared peanut

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Ofood brand Mild Ssamjang Original Seasoned Soybean Paste is being recalled across Canada because it contains peanut that is improperly declared on the label.

The CFIA said people with peanut allergies or sensitivities could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the affected product.

The agency listed three recalled products:

• Ofood Mild Ssamjang Original Seasoned Soybean Paste (170 g) — UPC 8 801052 048192 — “All codes where peanut is not declared on the bilingual label.”
• Ofood Mild Ssamjang Original Seasoned Soybean Paste (500 g) — UPC 8 801052 048215 — “All codes where peanut is not declared on the bilingual label.”
• Ofood Mild Ssamjang Original Seasoned Soybean Paste (1 kg) — UPC 8 801052 048208 — “All codes where peanut is not declared on the bilingual label.”

According to the CFIA, the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. The agency also said there have been no reported reactions associated with consumption of these products.

The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation and that it may lead to the recall of other products. The agency said it is also verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

The CFIA classified the recall as Class 1 under identification number RA-82606. The recalling firms are Lemond Food Corp. and Seoul Trading Corp., according to the agency.

The CFIA’s recall notice was originally published on Sept. 8, 2026, and lists the distribution as national.
