Clarington cancels outdoor recreation programs and Orono Park Pool drop-in swims on July 16 due to poor air quality

Municipal outdoor recreation programs in Clarington, including Families in the Park and Orono Park Pool drop-in swims, were cancelled Thursday, July 16, 2026, due to poor air quality, the Municipality of Clarington said.

The cancellation affects scheduled outdoor programming that day, and the municipality said it was taking additional steps to limit exposure for those who still needed to work outside.

In its notice, the municipality said Clarington Camps would remain indoors on July 16.

The municipality also said staff who were required to work outdoors were provided personal protective equipment “to help reduce exposure to airborne particulate matter associated with wildfire smoke.”
