Clarington drop-off sites set for Hunger Action Month food drive Sept. 9 to Oct. 5

Durham Region’s local municipalities, including Clarington, are collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations for Hunger Action Month from Sept. 9 to Oct. 5, with drop-off locations set up at several Clarington facilities and an online donation option.

The campaign is tied to demand for emergency food support in Durham Region. Feed the Need in Durham reported more than 880,000 visits last year to food programs in its network of 70 community food programs, and said one in four Durham households is food insecure.

According to the Municipality of Clarington’s announcement, donations will support Feed the Need in Durham and participating community food programs.

The municipality said donations dropped off at locations in east Clarington will support the Clarington East Food Bank.

Feed the Need in Durham said every $1 donated can help it collect, store and distribute two meals, along with other needed products.

Feed the Need in Durham also said it is seeking volunteers during Hunger Action Month.
