Clarington mayor says roundtable planned with Board of Trade in response to U.S. tariffs

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster says he is working with municipal staff and the Clarington Board of Trade to convene a business roundtable in response to escalating U.S. trade tariffs.

For local residents and business owners, the proposed meeting could shape what information the municipality gathers about tariff-related impacts on Clarington companies, and what kinds of support requests are brought forward.

According to Foster’s Aug. 25 statement posted on the Municipality of Clarington website, the proposed roundtable is intended to gather feedback from local businesses on how the tariffs are affecting them and what support they need.

Foster called the situation a “worsening trade war” and described the tariffs as “unjustified and senseless.”

In the same statement, Foster also referenced the Clarington Vendor Directory, describing it as a tool that “connects local businesses with municipal opportunities.”

The statement did not include a date or location for the proposed roundtable.

Foster’s statement also did not specify which U.S. tariffs he was referring to or which sectors in Clarington he believes are being affected.
