Clarington posts survey as it develops GIS and GIS data strategy
The Municipality of Clarington says it has posted an online survey as it develops a GIS and GIS Data Strategy, with the announcement dated July 14, 2026.
The municipality says the strategy is focused on how Clarington uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GIS data for municipal work, including services, planning and decision-making, and it is asking residents to share feedback through the survey.
Clarington describes GIS—short for Geographic Information Systems—as the technology behind many digital maps and map-based tools used to explore the community, find information and access services.
In its announcement, the municipality listed examples of GIS-based maps and tools available in Clarington, including the Active Transportation (Trails) Map, Clarington Public Map Gallery, Heritage Properties Map, Municipal Parking Lots and Parking Meter Location Map, Parks and Sports Fields Search, Property Search Map, Service Clarington, the snowplow tracking map, Ward Map, and the Zoning By-law Map.
Clarington also said GIS is used internally to collect and organize location-based information and connect data to places across Clarington. The municipality said GIS helps staff identify patterns and trends and informs decisions about services and planning.
According to the municipality, the survey asks residents how they use Clarington’s maps now and what they would like to see in the future.
Clarington did not include a deadline for the survey or a timeline for completing the GIS and GIS Data Strategy in its posted announcement.
