According to the Municipality of Clarington, Municipal Law Enforcement received formal complaints about one property and conducted an investigation. The municipality said investigators found no evidence of an abattoir operating on the property.

Clarington said Building Division inspectors also attended the site and identified Building Code matters unrelated to meat processing. The municipality did not provide details about those Building Code issues.

In its statement, Clarington also said there was no confirmed evidence to support claims of illegal meat processing.

As of June 30, Clarington said it had not received any other substantive complaints about other properties.

Clarington said its by-law enforcement is complaint-based. The municipality also noted that its Municipal Law Enforcement Officers are Provincial Offences Officers.

The municipality did not identify the property that was investigated.
