Clarington Supports Deposit/Return Program for Recycled Drink Containers

The General Government Committee of Clarington discussed the implementation of a deposit/return program for recycled plastics, aluminum, and metal drink containers during its meeting on September 23, 2019. The committee noted that such programs have been successful in other provinces, including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia, where they have effectively reduced the presence of these containers in the environment. Additionally, the committee emphasized the need for extended producer responsibility for all packaging. The resolution was to be forwarded to various provincial and federal officials, including the Premier of Ontario and the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, to seek their support for these initiatives.
