Durham College and Ontario Tech plan three-storey expansion of Oshawa’s Campus Ice Centre, targeting August 2028 opening

Durham College and Ontario Tech University plan a three-storey expansion and partial renovation of the Campus Ice Centre at 2000 Simcoe St. N. in Oshawa, with the new Campus High-Performance Complex expected to open in August 2028.

In an announcement posted Sept. 9, the schools said the expanded facility is intended to serve varsity athletics and increase space for recreation and other activities on the Oshawa campus, while also supporting student and community use.

The project is planned to add nearly 60,000 square feet of new space and renovate approximately 9,000 square feet within the existing Campus Ice Centre.

The schools said the Campus High-Performance Complex will include basketball and volleyball courts, integrated strength, conditioning and fitness areas, study and lounge spaces, and expanded food services. The existing two ice pads would remain part of the facility.

According to the announcement, the facility is planned to serve the Durham Lords and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks varsity teams and create more capacity for intramurals, fitness programming, tournaments, camps, campus events, and everyday student and community use.

The schools said they are proposing the expansion in response to growing participation and capacity pressures across existing athletics and recreation facilities.

The Campus Ice Centre will remain open during construction, according to the announcement. The announcement did not include a cost estimate or a detailed construction schedule beyond the expected August 2028 opening.
