Durham College athletics department receives CCAA Community Service Award for 2025–26

Durham College’s Athletics and Recreation department has received the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) Community Service Award for the 2025–26 season, according to a Durham College announcement dated July 8, 2026.

The award cites Durham College’s “Sport is for everyBODY!” parasport initiative, run in partnership with ParaSport Ontario. The program involves adaptive sport and recreation opportunities for students and community members, as described by the college.

Durham College said the initiative introduced participants to wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, sledge hockey and other adaptive sports during the year.

The college also said it served as a host venue for several parasport events, including the 2025 Wheelchair Basketball National Championships, national team training camps, and the Ontario Volleyball Association’s sitting volleyball camps.

“Community engagement has always been at the heart of what we do at Durham College, and everybody has contributed to this initiative: our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and community partners,” said Scott Dennis, Durham College’s director of Athletics and Recreation, in the announcement.

Durham College said students were involved in delivering inclusive programming alongside ParaSport Ontario leaders, including goalball, boccia and sitting volleyball.

Looking ahead, the Athletics and Recreation team intends to continue the initiative, with plans underway for a Parasport Summer Camp next year, Durham College said.
