Durham College board elects Peter Pryce chair and John Ecker vice-chair for 2026–2027

Durham College’s Board of Governors elected Peter Pryce as chair and John Ecker as vice-chair for the 2026–2027 board year at a June 26 meeting, the college said.

The two positions lead the Board of Governors, which Durham College said is responsible for its governance mandate and strategic oversight. The college operates campuses in Oshawa and Whitby.

Pryce has served on the board for four years. He is a senior operations manager at Lakeside Performance Gas Services and holds a designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, according to the college’s announcement.

In a statement included in the release, Pryce said he is “honoured and excited” to take on the chair role and wants to work with fellow governors and management “in a transparent, collaborative, and productive environment,” with a focus on “long-term financial sustainability.”

Ecker, a Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council appointee, has served on the board for three years. He chairs the Ontario Heritage Trust and serves on several boards, including the Durham Regional Police Service Board, the college said.

Ecker said he looks forward to supporting Pryce and referred to what he called the province’s recent $151.4 million investment in Durham College. He said the investment “will help” the incoming board stay focused on student success and “delivering programs that lead to great careers.”

Durham College’s release said the chair and vice-chair are responsible for governance practices that include transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making, and that the board has fiduciary responsibilities.
