Durham College Offers New Pathway to Queen’s University for Engineering Grads

Durham College (DC) in Oshawa has announced a new educational pathway for its engineering technology graduates. This agreement with Queen’s University allows students who have completed advanced diplomas in Engineering Technology at DC to transfer into upper-year degree programs at Queen’s University. The available programs include civil, mining, mechanical, and chemical engineering.

Kara Woods, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at DC, highlighted the collaboration as a means to integrate practical learning from DC with the academic framework at Queen’s. This pathway is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from diploma to degree for students.

Mitch Connelly, a 2021 graduate of DC’s Civil Engineering Technology program, is part of the first cohort to utilize this pathway. Connelly noted the cost-effectiveness and practical nature of this route compared to a traditional undergraduate degree.

The pathway is supported by the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT), and more DC students are expected to join the program. Seven students have begun online preparatory courses, with plans to start foundational classes next summer before entering Queen’s University in September 2025.
