Durham College outlines accessibility supports and campus features at Oshawa and Whitby campuses

Durham College published a blog post on Sept. 8, 2026, describing accessibility supports and campus features at its Oshawa Campus (2000 Simcoe St. N.) and Whitby Campus (1610 Champlain Ave.).

The information is aimed at current and prospective students, as well as visitors attending campus tours and events, and outlines what the college says is available through its student services and physical campus updates.

In the post, Durham College said its Access and Support Centre serves students with an identified exceptionality or who need support under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The college said the centre offers peer and computerized notetaking, peer coaching, a dedicated test centre, and a social group, and that students can receive an individualized Access Plan.

Durham College also described physical accessibility-related changes it said have been made across its campuses. These include installing tactile walking surface indicators on curbs and in stairwells, updating braille wayfinding, ensuring accessible counter heights, and purchasing mobility device charging stations. The college said fire strobe lights are being installed in residential labs at the Whitby Campus.

For people visiting the campuses, Durham College said campus tours and events use accessible tour routes and can provide accommodations.

The blog post also describes Durham College’s Accessibility Coordinating Committee, which the college said was established in 2003. According to the college, the committee meets several times each year and includes members from across the college as well as community partners, and it supports accessibility planning in line with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Integrated Accessibility Standards.
