Durham College recreation therapy graduate Kyle Repulles has been hired as a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, after completing a field placement at Lakeridge Health Whitby, according to a college profile published July 22.

For Bowmanville-area residents, the profile offers a snapshot of one route into hospital-based recreation therapy work, describing a move from student placement to an entry-level role within Lakeridge Health.

Durham College said Repulles completed his placement at the Whitby hospital site before taking the Bowmanville position after graduation.

In the profile, Repulles described his placement experience in general terms, including working with patients and staff. “From my first day, I felt welcomed by everyone I worked with,” he said.

Erica Arbour, identified by the college as the Recreation Therapy program coordinator, said in the post that applied learning can help students build confidence and professional relationships.

Durham College did not provide a start date for Repulles’ Bowmanville role or additional details about his duties in the Therapeutic Recreation Assistant position beyond the job title.

The college published the item in its online blog under “Programs & Academics.”
