Durham College says Bistro ’67 at Whitby campus won two Whitby Reader’s Choice Awards
Durham College says its teaching restaurant, Bistro ’67 at the Whitby campus, received two Reader’s Choice Awards for Whitby this summer: a Diamond award for “Best Bang for Your Buck” and a Platinum award for “Best Vegetarian Restaurant.”
Bistro ’67 is open to the public and is used as a training restaurant for Durham College students.
In an Aug. 21 post, the college said students from several programs take part in operating the restaurant. Horticulture Food and Farming and Horticulture Technician students grow and harvest ingredients on campus, the post said.
The college said Culinary Skills and Culinary Management students prepare meals using those ingredients. It also said Hospitality Skills and Hospitality – Hotel and Restaurant Operations Management students welcome and serve guests.
Lori Saint, general manager of Durham College’s W. Galen Weston Centre for Food, said Bistro ’67’s vegetarian menu draws on produce grown at the Whitby campus fields and at the Barrett Centre for Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture’s farm in Ajax.
Details about the voting process for the Reader’s Choice Awards for Whitby and the date the awards were presented were not provided in the college’s announcement, which was posted Aug. 21.
