Durham posts sewage servicing environmental assessment for Port Perry Employment Area, with review open until June 29

The Regional Municipality of Durham says it has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for sanitary sewage servicing to support the Port Perry Employment Area in Scugog, and has posted the study’s Project File Report for a 60-day public review running from April 30 to June 29, 2026.

For residents and businesses in and around Port Perry, the assessment outlines where new sewage infrastructure could be built to serve the employment area, including a new pumping station site and proposed routes for new pipes connected to existing facilities.

According to Durham’s notice, the Class EA assessed whether part of the employment area could be serviced through existing infrastructure. It also identified a preferred site for a new Employment Area Sanitary Sewage Pumping Station (SSPS), potential forcemain routes to convey wastewater to the Nonquon Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), and sanitary sewer routes tied to an expansion of the existing Reach Street SSPS catchment area.

Durham said the recommended work includes connecting the eastern portion of the employment area to the existing Reach Street SSPS catchment area by crossing Cawker’s Creek. The notice lists two possible crossing locations: the southwest corner of Roseborough Drive or Fifeshire Court.

For the new pumping station, the notice lists two possible locations: the northwest corner of 1520 Reach Street, or the property immediately west at 181 North Port Road.

The notice also describes a recommended dual forcemain system along the eastern property line of 1595 Reach Street, from Reach Street to the Nonquon WPCP.

Durham said additional work related to the project is exempt under the Environmental Assessment Act and was not part of the study, including an upgrade to the Reach Street SSPS and rerouting of the Reach Street SSPS forcemain system to connect into the new dual forcemain system.

The Project File Report is available at durham.ca/PortPerryEmploymentLandsSSPS, with comments due by June 29, according to the notice.
