Kingston Road lane shifts in Ajax to begin April 20 for DSBRT construction through July 2027

Lane shifts and off-peak lane restrictions are set to begin April 20, 2026, on Kingston Road (Regional Highway 2) in Ajax, as construction starts on the second segment of the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project. The work is scheduled to run from Rotherglen Road to about 300 metres west of Harwood Avenue, with construction planned to continue until July 2027.

For people who travel through this part of Kingston Road—whether driving, using transit, walking or cycling—the project is expected to change how traffic moves through the area for more than a year. Off-peak lane shifts and restrictions are planned starting April 20, and longer lane reductions are planned beginning in fall 2026.

Durham Region’s notice says lane shifts and lane restrictions will be in place during off-peak times within the construction limits.

Beginning in fall 2026, Kingston Road is scheduled to be reduced to one lane in each direction for longer periods to allow construction of new median transit stop platforms.

According to Durham Region, the work is being done to construct the second segment of the DSBRT line.

Bus routes, bus stops, sidewalks and businesses are expected to remain open throughout the construction period, the region said.

The schedule may change due to weather conditions.

Durham Region said the project is partially funded through the federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
