Lakeridge Health Recognized for Surgical Care Quality

Lakeridge Health, a healthcare provider in Durham Region, has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP). The hospital achieved 'Meritorious' status for its surgical care, a distinction shared with 76 other hospitals in North America. This marks the second time in four years that Lakeridge Health has received this recognition.

Dr. John Dickie, Chief of Surgery at Lakeridge Health, noted that this achievement highlights the hospital's commitment to high-quality care. Heather Lithgow, Director of Surgical Services, emphasized the dedication and skill of the surgical teams in improving patient outcomes.

Lakeridge Health participates in the ACS NSQIP by collecting data on patient safety and surgical outcomes. This data is used to identify areas for improvement and to develop action plans aimed at reducing complications and improving patient experiences. The hospital plans to expand its quality improvement initiatives to other facilities in the coming months.

The ACS NSQIP is a nationally validated program that aims to enhance surgical care quality. It focuses on reducing hospital readmissions and improving patient satisfaction and outcomes. Cynthia Davis, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health, stated that the hospital's approach to quality improvement is crucial for patient satisfaction and resource management across its facilities.
