Ontario Tech University says it is planning three major projects for its north Oshawa campus at 2000 Simcoe St. N.: a new academic building targeted for 2029, a 450-bed student residence scheduled to open in fall 2027, and a Campus High-Performance Complex anticipated to open in August 2028. The university outlined the plans in a Sept. 9, 2026, announcement.

For residents who travel through or use the shared north Oshawa campus, the plans include changes to internal traffic and pedestrian routes, new student housing, and a new athletics and recreation facility tied to the existing Campus Ice Centre.

The academic building is planned for the area now used as Founders Lot 2. In its announcement, the university said the project would shift vehicle traffic toward the campus perimeter and add new pedestrian routes and public spaces.

Ontario Tech said the changes are intended to create a new gateway area and improve connections to nearby buildings, including Shawenjigewining Hall and the North Oshawa Campus Library.

For housing, the university said The Ridge, a new student residence, is scheduled to open in fall 2027 and add 450 beds in its first phase. A second residence connected to the academic building is also planned, with approximately 400 additional beds.

On the shared north Oshawa campus with Durham College, the Campus High-Performance Complex is anticipated to open in August 2028. The complex would add more than 5,500 square metres (nearly 60,000 square feet) of new space and renovate more than 800 square metres (approximately 9,000 square feet) within the Campus Ice Centre.

The university said the facility is planned to include basketball and volleyball courts, strength, conditioning and fitness areas, study and lounge spaces, and expanded food services, in addition to the site’s two ice pads.

Ontario Tech said the building is designed to support varsity athletics, intramurals, fitness programming, campus events and community programming.
