Pickering College gave Durham College’s Barrett Centre a Community Agent of Change award, Durham College says

Pickering College gave Durham College’s Barrett Centre of Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture its Community Agent of Change award earlier this year, according to a June 30 posting by Durham College.

For local residents, the announcement points to work that Durham College says the Barrett Centre has been doing with Pickering College students, including programming tied to the school’s Blue and Silver farm.

Durham College said Pickering College presents the Community Agent of Change award annually to individuals and organizations that, in the school’s words, “leave the world better than they found it” and reflect Quaker values.

In its post, Durham College said the Barrett Centre has worked with Pickering College to deliver urban agriculture workshops to students and to consult on the growth of the Blue and Silver farm.

Brenna Bizley, the Barrett Centre’s partnership manager, said the centre’s work includes “food literacy and understanding how food grows.”

Bizley also said the centre has engaged more than 17,000 community members through educational initiatives and digital resources.

Durham College’s post did not say when or where the award was presented.
