Sparkler Safety Tips from Clarington Emergency and Fire Services

Clarington Emergency and Fire Services have outlined several safety guidelines for using sparklers, particularly emphasizing precautions for children. The guidelines are as follows: 1. Ensure that everyone handling sparklers wears protective gloves. 2. Avoid loose-fitting or flowing clothing, which can catch fire. 3. Children should only use sparklers under adult supervision, and sparklers are not suitable for children under five years old. 4. Sparklers should be held at an arm's length while being lit, and only one sparkler should be lit at a time. 5. Maintain a safe distance from others using sparklers, and do not wave sparklers around close to other people. 6. After a sparkler has burned out, it should be placed, hot end down, in a bucket of cold water or sand, and left there for several hours as they can remain hot for a long time.
