Durham Region to present preferred Hopkins Street widening design at June 10 Whitby meeting
Durham Region is holding an in-person Public Information Centre on Tuesday, June 10, to present and collect feedback on its preferred design for reconstructing and widening Hopkins Street (Regional Road 36) in Whitby, from Consumers Drive (Regional Road 25) to Dundas Street. The session runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Anderson CVI School, 400 Anderson St., according to a regional notice.
The meeting gives area residents a chance to review the proposed road design and comment before the region completes its study for the project.
Durham Region’s preferred design for the Hopkins Street corridor includes widening the road, adding a two-way centre turning lane, and building a grade separation at the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway corridor.
For people who cannot attend June 10, Durham Region says the presentation materials will be posted online starting June 11 on the project page at durham.ca/HopkinsStreetEA.
Durham Region is accepting public comments until July 9, 2026, the notice says.
The region says the study’s findings will be documented in a Project File Report, which will be made available for a 30-day public review period. Durham Region also says it will issue a Notice of Study Completion when the report is available.
