Police Relaunch Operation Freeze to Reward Positive Youth Actions in Durham

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has announced the return of Operation Freeze, a program in which officers distribute coupons for free Froster drinks to youth observed exhibiting positive behaviour in the community. According to DRPS, the initiative launched on June 5, 2025, and coupons can be redeemed at any Circle K convenience store.

The program is intended to encourage positive actions among young residents in Durham Region and gives officers opportunities to interact with youth in the area. This effort is presented by DRPS as a way to recognize young people for positive choices and actions.

DRPS stated that officers will be watching for youth wearing bike helmets, picking up litter, lending a hand, or otherwise showing kindness. Coupons for free drinks may be provided to youth displaying these kinds of behaviours. Chief Peter Moreira described the program as an opportunity for officers to acknowledge good actions and build relationships with young community members.

Operation Freeze, according to DRPS, is offered in partnership with Crime Stoppers and Circle K, who support police services in similar initiatives elsewhere in Ontario.
