Clarington’s Diversity Leadership Bursary Initiative
Clarington’s Diversity Leadership Bursary is designed to encourage and celebrate young community leaders by alleviating some of the financial barriers associated with post-secondary education. The bursary provides $1,500 to eligible graduating high school students involved in activities and initiatives that promote diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in Clarington. The inaugural recipient of the bursary is Jenae Heron-Kelly from St. Stephen Catholic Secondary School in Bowmanville, recognized for her leadership in the St. Stephen’s Black Student Association and her commitment to community service. The bursary is administered by Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee, which offers guidance and recommendations to the Council and municipal staff on diversity-related issues. This initiative aligns with Clarington’s 2024-27 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Strategy, which aims to foster an inclusive community and support diverse voices.
