The Ontario government has announced a $6 million investment for improvements on Highway 401 near Kingston. The project includes resurfacing sections of the eastbound and westbound lanes from Westbrook Road to Highway 15, as well as all four ramps at the Sir John A. Macdonald interchange. Additionally, concrete repairs will be conducted on two bridges between Sydenham Road and Highway 15.

Ric Breese, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and MPP for Hastings–Lennox and Addington, stated that Highway 401 is a crucial link for communities in eastern Ontario, connecting them to Quebec, the United States, and beyond. Breese emphasized that the government aims to tackle gridlock and improve traffic flow through these investments.

Bryan Paterson, Mayor of Kingston, noted that the upgrades will enhance safety, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen Kingston's connection to vital trade routes. The project is part of the Ontario Highways Program, which allocates $3.9 billion for 635 expansion and rehabilitation projects across the province in 2024-25.
