Oshawa Man Arrested After Threatening Female with Handgun
A male is in custody following an incident involving threats made with a handgun in Oshawa.
On Sunday, September 1, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers from the Central East Division responded to a report of an armed individual in the vicinity of Olive Avenue and Keewatin Street South. According to police reports, the suspect threatened a female while pointing a handgun at her before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.
The victim did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident.
On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, police located the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Don-Neil Halstead, who was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant executed at the residence where Halstead was staying resulted in the discovery of a significant quantity of cocaine and a replica firearm.
Halstead faces multiple charges, including:
- Assault
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
- Uttering threats
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
- Pointing a firearm
- Careless storage of a firearm
- Use of a firearm during the commission of an offense.
He has been held for a bail hearing. The police have stated that this incident was isolated.
